Started with the Roots, but it got me thinking about other top albums this year. I’ll post a series! Another Highlight of the year was Oneirology by Cunninlynguists. A concept album like Undun, Oneirology released earlier in the year and was rightfully praised for its exploration of the mind’s exploration in dreams. Enemies with Benefits is an incredible track, but my personal favorite for originality is Hard As They Come, which has every rapper on the track speaking from the perspective of different destructive forces in communities. Natti takes on alcohol, Freddie Gibbs embodies cocaine, and Kno gives voice to HIV/AIDS.
